Roxas City – The Provincial Government of Capiz under the administration of Gov. Vic Tanco received an award for “Good Governance in Medicine,” conferred by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Medicine Transparency Alliance (META), last January 26, 2010. The “First National Awards for Good Governance in Medicines” aims to instill the importance of transparency and good governance in improving access to quality medicines.
The entries are evaluated through their conformity on WHO and national standards for their management of medicines, including access. Capiz was chosen because of its proper structures and systems in medicine selection, procurement, management, financing, rational use and access.
Gov. Vic Tanco believes that in order to have a progressive Capiz, its citizens must be fit, strong and vigorous. His development agenda includes “Healthy Capizeños” and the recently received recognition only proves that the province is on the right track to progress.
“My development agenda always focuses on the welfare of the people,” Gov. Tanco added.
The plaque of recognition and the cash prize worth P 150,000.00 was received by Dr. Jarvis Punzalan, Provincial Health Officer II. It was awarded by Dr. Alberto Romualdez, Undersecretary Alexander Padilla and Undersecretary David Lozada of the Department of Health.
